SUMMARY:Mortem: Death School for Artists
DESCRIPTION:Mortem is an intensive online research residency for artists to pursue our curiosity of death\, mortality and mourning practices over ten days in November. \nWhile on residency with the Biophilium artists interact with a range of death experts. Mortem offers a forum to learn about human and non-human death practices directly from international end of life and death care professionals\, historians\, funeral industry workers\, biologists\, green burial advocates and artists on a range of death related topics and several short one on one meetings with artists who make work about death around the world. \nThis research fellowship supports artists while they explore and develop their identities as death-curious artists\, address extinction and environmental grief\, and develop new creative ways to acknowledge mortality and to renegotiate our relationships with the dead.\nAccepting applications until May 25th

SUMMARY:Monthly Cup Of Tea For The Soul
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this monthly event\, on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm. After a suicide loss \, many survivors feel isolated. Finding sameness and belonging are key ingredients needed to help their journey through grief. Feeling supported and with the possibility to create new connections is essential. In this 1.5 hour session\, you will find a safe place to meet other suicide loss survivors to share challenges\, resources\, feelings and ideas. \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1036231254577?aff=oddtdtcreator \nThis session will cover: \nFacilitated grief circle for a particular loss type relationship: parents\, partner\, child\, sibling\, friends\, coworkers. Loss types may be grouped together depending on monthly turn out. During this grief circle\, skilled volunteers will facilitate and offer discussion prompts\, and attendees are welcome to participate in the conversation or simply find comfort in being present in the space. \nDuring this session\, we will also lead a mindfulness grounding exercise\, honor those who have passed\, and provide support resources for all attendees. \nWho is it for? \nAnyone who has lost a significant other to suicide and wants to join others in building a supportive community. \nZoom link will be provided once registered. \nAttendees will be advised to attend at their discretion\, acknowledging that grieving a suicide can be challenging. Attendees will be invited to be mindful of the content of their sharing to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing. \nImportant Information \nOur events prioritize creating a safe and supportive space in various ways\, including guidelines to avoid discussing graphic details of loss to prevent re traumatizing others. We recognize that those in the very early stages of grief may still feel overwhelmed by discussions surrounding suicide loss. We encourage you to check in with yourself before attending to ensure you feel ready for this kind of group experience \nTo help create a safe and supportive environment\, we ask that participants keep their webcams on during the event. \nFacilitators \nThis session is facilitated by Jesse Cervenka and co-facilitated by experienced volunteers. Jesse is the new Bereavement Coordinator at the Crisis Centre of BC as well as an intern Counsellor at the Vancouver Hospice Society\, where he helps run various groups and provides one-on-one grief counseling. Jesse hopes to make this event a safe place for people to share their stories and build a sense of community. \nThe Crisis Centre of BC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support services. To help support these sessions\, please consider making a donation at crisiscentre.bc.ca/donate \nQuestions? \nPlease email bereavement@crisiscentre.bc.ca
