She is a harm reduction advocate and educator\, a former founding member of Communities Organizing for Harm Reduction\, one of the first organized groups in Ottawa doing harm reduction before there were any safe sites. DESCRIPTION:Let’s gather and engage with our questions and feelings about: \nsex after the death of a loved one.\nthe disenfranchised grief of polyamorous and kinky relational loss.\nhow pleasure and erotic energy can support our mourning.\nchanges in desire as death approaches for ourselves or a loved one.\ncultural expectations of how a widow should act and our internalized stories about that.\nanything sex/pleasure and bereavement related. No question is too taboo. \nJess will invite folks to participate in embodiment exercises\, freewrite and consider the ways they want to be in relationship to their sexual expression within their (anticipatory) grief. \nJess DeVries is a queer somatic sex coach and grief worker. She primarily serves the queer/trans community supporting folks in reclaiming body autonomy and to inspire curiosity about pleasure and sexual expression\, guiding folks to define and pursue pleasure on their own terms. She is a grief advocate who regularly facilitates spaces for people to grieve\, inviting the wisdom of the body to guide the grief process. \nWithin the realms of grief\, she has trained with Being Here\, Human – as well as – Shauna Janz of Sacred Grief. Her grief work is held by connections to her ancestors\, mugwort\, hawthorne\, rose\, connection to her pussy\, and many many tears. Within the realms of pleasure and embodiment\, she has trained in Somatic Sex Education and Sexological Bodywork at the ISSSE – as well as – the Somatica Method with the Somatica Institute. Her pleasure work is held by delighting in sights\, smells\, and tastes\, a dirty imagination\, and sharing touch with human and non-human kin. \nJess provides 1:1 sessions online or by phone. She also facilitates workshops\, grief circles\, and rituals online for queer folks\, ex-Christians\, and Covid realist communities.

DESCRIPTION:Throughout human history\, art has played an important role in the ways that we memorialize loved ones in death and express our grief. Join us at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a meaningful exploration of how art can illuminate and validate our personal experiences with loss. Led by creative grief professional\, Melanie Wilson\, and arts educator\, Deborah Chi\, this intimate group gathering will invite participants to view and discuss several carefully selected works of art that speak to different aspects of the mourning process. Through reflective exercises and thoughtful conversation\, participants will have the opportunity to explore their own grief and feelings around dying\, using art as a catalyst for deeper understanding. This engaging experience encourages processing and dialogue as we reflect on how these artistic expressions might resonate with our own journeys through grief\, creating space for both individual contemplation and shared understanding.\nPlease note: This is an interactive experience where participants are invited to share thoughts and feelings. We understand that some people prefer to process quietly while others find healing through verbal expression—both approaches are welcome and honored in our group.\nThis tour is available in English only\, and will require some mobility as we will be touring across two floors of the museum.\nGroup is limited to 15 people. SUMMARY:April Queer Death Salon
DESCRIPTION:Queer Death Salon is a community space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ people to come together to discuss death\, dying and grief. It is a facilitated drop-in discussion space\, with the purpose of building connection\, skill\, and resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ people navigating end of life in our personal lives and in our communities. \nOn April 8\, join us for a virtual gathering for people who have lost someone or multiple people to suicide and who are loooking to share space with people who have experienced similar circumstances. \nLoss by suicide brings particular griefs related to stigma\, invalidation of the loss\, failure to ‘save’ a loved one\, guilt\, confusion\, anger and more.
