TalkDeath has always been an advocate for environmentally conscious body disposition options and sustainable choices. Way back in 2014, when TalkDeath was in its infancy (under the Keeper brand), we published an infographic in collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation containing information about the environmental impact of funerals and cremation.

We were surprised (and thrilled!) when the infographic became widely circulated and sourced in others articles and news outlets.

Seeing as much has changed since 2014, we teamed up with Keeper Memorials to revisit this infographic and the statistics it contains.

Climate change and its impact on the world and our lives isn’t going away. That’s why the TalkDeath team has always been dedicated to reporting about the eco-conscious options that can help make our deaths less impactful to our planet.

We consulted a variety of current funeral industry and government sources to calculate our stats on deaths and burials per year in the US. We also interviewed industry professionals from our large network of funeral homes, cemeteries and manufacturers. They corroborated and expanded upon our conclusions.

We hope you enjoy the information in this graphic and welcome you to direct any questions you have about our work to info@talkdeath.com. For full transparency, we are happy to share documentation showing how we arrived at the numbers and stats included below.

In order to reduce our own footprint, Keeper and TalkDeath will donate 15 cents CAD for every Like on the following posts from April 22nd – April 23rd to The David Suzuki Foundation.

Happy Earth day, and thanks for your continued support.

  1. Hello, My name is Juan Martinez and I have been in the death care industry for a number of years and saw the need for an alternative option. I have design a new cemetery that provides multi use piece of land that is maintained through green burial. I would like to know if you would be interested in conversation about learning more about the first all green burial cemetery in California. I have attached my email below, you can also give me a call at 503-919-8636. Thank you hope to hear from you.
