Repost from @iconsinash In the regency of Tana T Repost from @iconsinash

In the regency of Tana Toraja (meaning the land of the Toraja), on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, a particular burial is performed for infants who die before teething: wrapped in cloth, the corpses are placed inside the hollow of living trees.

The Toraja people believe in animism and, as the tree begins to heal, the child is believed to be absorbed.

Repost from @emerald.awakenings “Avoiding death Repost from @emerald.awakenings

“Avoiding death talks with children can lead to confusion, fear and dissociation.

It’s also just as important to be mindful of the ways in which we bring up these conversations with the littles.

A child’s capacity for these conversations will vary, but every child will have some sort of reaction to life’s biggest disruption.

Let them lead the conversation and ask questions. Avoid the need to fix or keep them from feeling things.

Above all, be honest! 🕊️

As we wrap up National Family Caregiver Month, we’re bringing you an incredibly important piece from @andrea.lianne on caregiving for your parents and the complexities of ambiguous loss.

“I was 21 when my dad was diagnosed with dementia. My maternal grandma was already some years into her Lewy body dementia, but I didn’t understand the feelings of ambiguous loss. I definitely didn’t think of myself as a caregiver, until I had no choice but to embrace the role. Now, at 25, my life is fully involved in these two elders and all that comes with their illnesses.”
