Would you want to be buried in a forest cemetery? Would you want to be buried in a forest cemetery?

Michelle Acciavatti founded the Vermont Forest Cemetery in 2022, and it has taken a while to get all of the permits in place to finally be able to have their first burial.

While many cemeteries offer green burial in dedicated plots, this cemetery is a bit different. The entire experience of being buried here has an intimate connection with nature. Those interested in being buried here are able to walk around and choose their plot in the forest.

Acciavatti has even found her own plot at the cemetery – nestled in between birch trees.

As of today, green burial is legal in seven states in the United States, and legislation is in process in many other states. If you live in a state where it is illegal, consider contacting your representatives and letting them know there is interest!

National Novel Writing Month! Often shortened to N National Novel Writing Month! Often shortened to NaNoWriMo, writers step up to the challenge of writing 50K words, with the goal of having a draft of a novel by the end of November 📝

Novels and fictions can be a rich way to understand our realities- from death, grief, and loss on a personal level, to the structures of war, genocide, and violence we see today.

To celebrate the wordsmiths and storytellers, here are some novels that explore themes of death, dying, and mortality- some more literally than others! 📖

📚Beloved by Toni Morrison

📚This Town Sleeps by Dennis E Saples

📚Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk

📚Little Blue Encyclopedia by Hazel Jane Plante

📚The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

📚Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi

📚The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

📚Grievers by Adrienne Maree Brown

📚The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy

📚Mostly Dead Things by Kristen Arnett

What would you like to add to the list? 📖
Have there been any novels on death or loss that you find particularly relevant today in our current climate of such mass death and loss? 📖
If you could have one more conversation with someo If you could have one more conversation with someone you love who has died, what would you want to talk about?

I’ve thought a lot about losing my grandpa before I had the chance to tell him I’m transgender, and how I think he would have told me he will always love me because that’s just the kind of person he was.

Let us know what you would want to talk about in the comments (BLACK HEART EMOJI)

Repost from @keepermemorials There is so much los Repost from @keepermemorials

There is so much loss due to violence, war, strife, displacement, and genocide in the world right now. We are left to examine the empty rhetoric used to discuss this tremendous grief- how it keeps the reality at arm’s length, neatly packed away like statistics or minor incidents.

It is okay not to be okay right now. What is happening isn't okay. There are many, connected, events of mass death, pain, and suffering happening congruently.

It’s necessary to sit with our grief in order to not check out. We cannot support one another or face difficult truths if we disengage.
